Key points
- Veterans Day is on Wednesday, November 11.
- Thanksgiving is on Thursday, November 26.
- Election Day (November 3) and Black Friday (November 27) are not federal holidays.
What are the federal holidays in November 2026?
The legal public holidays are set by 5 U.S.C. § 6103:
| Holiday | Rule | 2026 date |
|---|---|---|
| Veterans Day | November 11 | Wednesday, November 11 |
| Thanksgiving Day | Fourth Thursday in November | Thursday, November 26 |
The day after Thanksgiving, Black Friday, is not a federal holiday. Many employers give it off, but that’s their choice. See all 2027 dates in the guide to federal holidays 2027.
Is Election Day a federal holiday?
No. Federal law sets the election for Congress on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November of every even-numbered year (2 U.S.C. § 7), which in 2026 is Tuesday, November 3. It isn’t on the list of federal holidays, so banks, federal offices and most employers are open. Some states make it a state holiday or give time off to vote: check your state’s rules.
Do I get paid more for working on a federal holiday?
Not by federal law. The Fair Labor Standards Act doesn’t require holiday pay or a premium for working on a holiday; it only requires overtime after 40 hours in a week (29 U.S.C. § 207). Holiday pay depends on your employer’s policy or your contract. Federal employees follow the rules for federal holidays.
How many workdays are left in 2026?
From Monday, November 2, through Thursday, December 31, 2026, there are 41 workdays, counting both dates and leaving out weekends, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day (Friday, December 25). Check any range with the days between dates calculator, ticking “Include the end date”.
