Grade Calculators

Your GPA and the score you need, before the final

These grade calculators handle the school math that comes up every semester: your GPA weighted by credit hours, the score you need on the final to reach your goal and the letter grade for a percent.

The key idea

Your GPA is not an average of letters: credit hours weigh each one

An A in a 4-credit class and a C in a 1-credit lab give a 3.60 GPA, not 3.00. Your biggest classes move your GPA the most, which is why it pays to know the weight of each one before the final.

How we work

How we build calculators, in three principles

Diagnosis

01

Source first

Every formula comes from the law, the agency or the original study.

If a calculation depends on a rule (federal tax brackets, the Fair Labor Standards Act, Social Security), we start from the official text from the IRS, the Department of Labor or the SSA and link it on the page. If it depends on a study, we cite the study.

No figures copied from another calculator.

Method

02

Checked by hand

Every calculator is tested against cases worked out by hand.

The example on each page is one of those cases and matches the tool to the cent. We also test the edge cases: zeros, negatives, legal caps and odd dates.

When a rule changes, we review it and log the change on our corrections page.

Built to be understood

The result comes with the formula, the example and the common questions.

Everything runs in your browser, instantly and with no sign-up. You can share a calculation with a link, save it to your history or download it to Excel.

We do not store what you type.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my GPA?

Multiply each grade point by the course credits, add them up and divide by total credits. The GPA calculator does it for a semester and for your cumulative GPA.

What grade do I need on my final?

It depends on your current grade and how much the final is worth. With 88% now, a final worth 25% and a 90% goal, you need 96% on the final.

What is the usual letter grade scale?

A typical scale is A for 90–100%, B for 80–89%, C for 70–79%, D for 60–69% and F below 60%. Each school and teacher can set its own, so check your syllabus.

Is a weighted GPA different?

Yes: a weighted GPA gives extra points for honors, AP or IB classes. The GPA calculator gives the unweighted 4.0 GPA.

Can I type decimals?

Yes, with a decimal point: 3.75 or 88.5. The results are shown the same way.

Are my grades saved?

No. Everything runs in your browser; if you save a calculation, it stays on your device.
