Paycheck and Tax Calculators
Your pay, your taxes and your hours with the 2026 IRS figures
These paycheck and tax calculators work out the numbers behind your pay with the 2026 IRS tables and federal labor law: what you take home, your federal income tax, overtime, self-employment tax and what your hourly wage is worth in a year.
See all 10 calculatorsThe key idea
Gross pay is a promise; take-home pay is what you live on
A $60,000 salary paid every two weeks is $2,307.69 per paycheck, but federal withholding, Social Security and Medicare leave about $1,938.08 for a single filer, before state tax. Every decision about a job offer, overtime or a 401(k) is clearer in take-home dollars.

CalculateHow we work
How we build calculators, in three principles
Diagnosis
Source first
Every formula comes from the law, the agency or the original study.
If a calculation depends on a rule (federal tax brackets, the Fair Labor Standards Act, Social Security), we start from the official text from the IRS, the Department of Labor or the SSA and link it on the page. If it depends on a study, we cite the study.
No figures copied from another calculator.
Method
Checked by hand
Every calculator is tested against cases worked out by hand.
The example on each page is one of those cases and matches the tool to the cent. We also test the edge cases: zeros, negatives, legal caps and odd dates.
When a rule changes, we review it and log the change on our corrections page.
Tool
Built to be understood
The result comes with the formula, the example and the common questions.
Everything runs in your browser, instantly and with no sign-up. You can share a calculation with a link, save it to your history or download it to Excel.
We do not store what you type.
Common questions
Frequently asked questions
How much tax comes out of my paycheck?
It depends on your pay, your filing status and your Form W-4: federal income tax withholding, plus 6.2% for Social Security and 1.45% for Medicare. The paycheck calculator uses the 2026 IRS Publication 15-T tables to estimate it.
What are the 2026 federal tax brackets?
Seven rates from 10% to 37%. For a single filer, 12% starts at $12,400 of taxable income, 22% at $50,400 and 24% at $105,700, after a standard deduction of $16,100.
When do I get paid overtime?
Under federal law, non-exempt employees earn at least 1.5 times their regular rate for hours over 40 in a workweek. Some states add daily overtime rules.
Do freelancers pay more tax?
They pay both halves of Social Security and Medicare as self-employment tax, 15.3% on 92.35% of net profit, on top of income tax. Half of it is deductible.
Are the figures up to date?
Yes, for 2026: IRS brackets, standard deduction, withholding tables, Social Security wage base and 401(k) limits, each linked to its official source. We review them every year.
Do you store my salary?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser and nothing you type is sent to a server.
