Hourly to Salary Calculator

Your hourly wage as a yearly salary, and back again

This hourly to salary calculator turns your hourly wage into a yearly, monthly, biweekly and weekly amount with the hours you really work, or turns a salary offer into its hourly rate.

Hours over 40 a week are usually paid at time and a half: use the overtime calculator for those.

The key idea

$25 an hour is not always $52,000 a year: unpaid weeks change the number

40 hours a week at $25 is $52,000 if you are paid all 52 weeks. If two weeks off a year are unpaid, it is $50,000, and at 35 hours a week, $43,750. Before comparing an hourly job with a salaried one, count the hours and weeks you are actually paid.

01

How it is calculated

Yearly salary = hourly wage × hours per week × paid weeks per year

A full-time year is often taken as 40 hours × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours, which assumes paid holidays and vacation. If some weeks are unpaid, lower the number of weeks. To go from a salary to an hourly rate, divide by the same hours.

Monthly pay is the yearly amount divided by 12, and biweekly pay by 26. The result is gross pay: taxes, Social Security, Medicare and benefits come out of it, as the paycheck calculator shows.

02

Worked example

$25 an hour, 40 hours a week, 52 paid weeks: 25 × 40 × 52 = $52,000 a year, $4,333.33 a month and $2,000 every two weeks. Backwards, a $52,000 salary over 2,080 hours is $25 an hour.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Back to the calculator
How much is $25 an hour per year?

$52,000 a year at 40 hours a week for 52 weeks. That is $4,333.33 a month and $2,000 every two weeks, before taxes.

How many work hours are in a year?

2,080 for a full-time job of 40 hours a week over 52 weeks. Holidays and vacation are included if they are paid; subtract the weeks you are not paid.

How do I convert a salary to an hourly rate?

Divide the salary by the hours you work in a year: $60,000 / 2,080 = $28.85 an hour at 40 hours a week. If you regularly work 45 hours, the real rate is lower.

Should I count overtime?

Not in the base salary. Hours over 40 a week are usually paid at 1.5 times the rate for non-exempt workers; the overtime calculator works them out.

Is the result before or after tax?

Before tax. Your take-home pay is lower once federal and state income tax, Social Security and Medicare are withheld; the paycheck calculator estimates it.

What is the federal minimum wage as a salary?

$7.25 an hour is $15,080 a year at 40 hours a week for 52 weeks. Many states and cities set a higher minimum wage.
