Trump Account Calculator: How Much Your Child Could Have at 18
The $1,000 from the government, your contributions and your employer’s, grown until 18
This Trump account calculator projects what your child’s account could be worth at 18: the $1,000 the Treasury deposits for children born from 2025 through 2028, what your family adds each year (up to $5,000, employer money included) and the growth at the return you choose. Contributions can start on July 4, 2026.
What if you contribute more or less?
Projected value at 18 by your family’s yearly contribution, with the same return.

The key idea
The $1,000 is the start: what your family adds each year is what makes the difference
For a child born in 2026, the $1,000 alone could grow to about $3,159 by 18 at a 7% yearly return. Adding $1,000 a year until the child turns 17 takes it to about $37,158. The return is not guaranteed: these are index funds, and the value goes up and down with the stock market.
How it is calculated
A Trump Account is a new type of individual retirement account for children, created by the 2025 tax law. During its growth period, until December 31 of the year before the child turns 18:
- $1,000 from the Treasury for each U.S. citizen child born from January 1, 2025, through December 31, 2028, once a parent makes the election.
- Up to $5,000 a year from the family or anyone else, including up to $2,500 from an employer, which is not taxable for the employee. The limits adjust for inflation after 2027.
- Invested only in index funds of mostly U.S. stocks, such as the S&P 500, with fees of no more than 0.1% a year.
- No withdrawals until January 1 of the year the child turns 18.
Balance each year = previous balance × (1 + return) + contributions of the year
The calculator assumes one deposit at the end of each year, from 2026 to the year the child turns 17, and the pilot $1,000 in the first year. Contributions can’t be made before July 4, 2026. The return you choose is an assumption: stock index funds have good and bad years, and past results don’t guarantee future ones.
Worked example
A child born in 2026 gets the $1,000 pilot deposit, and the family adds $1,000 a year from 2026 through 2043, the year the child turns 17. At a 7% yearly return, the account could be worth about $37,158 on January 1, 2044: $18,000 from the family, $1,000 from the Treasury and $18,158 of growth.

Frequently asked questions
Who gets the $1,000 Trump Account deposit?
U.S. citizen children with a Social Security number who are born from January 1, 2025, through December 31, 2028, once a parent or guardian makes the election. It is a one-time deposit from the Treasury.
How much can I put in a Trump Account each year?
Up to $5,000 a year in total from family and others, including up to $2,500 from an employer. The $1,000 pilot deposit doesn’t count toward that limit, and the limits adjust for inflation after 2027.
When can I start contributing to a Trump Account?
Not before July 4, 2026. After that, contributions can be made every year until December 31 of the year before the child turns 18.
When can my child use the money?
From January 1 of the year they turn 18. From then on, the account follows the rules of a traditional IRA, including a 10% extra tax on withdrawals before 59½ unless an exception applies.
What can the money be invested in?
Only in mutual funds or ETFs that track an index of mostly U.S. companies, such as the S&P 500, without leverage and with fees of no more than 0.1% a year.
Are Trump Account withdrawals taxed?
Partly. The contributions your family makes are not taxed again, but the $1,000 pilot, employer contributions and the growth are taxed as income when withdrawn.
