Age Calculator
Your exact age in years, months and days
With this age calculator you get an exact age in years, months and days from a date of birth, plus the days lived and how long until the next birthday.
The key idea
Age is not found by subtracting years: you count from date to date
Subtracting the birth year from the current year is wrong every day before the birthday: someone born on May 15, 2000 was 25 until May 14, 2026. If the days come out negative you borrow a month, and if the months come out negative, a year. So on October 17, 2026 that person is 26 years, 5 months and 2 days old.
How it is calculated
We subtract the dates part by part: years, months and days. If the days come out negative we borrow a month (with the number of days that month has), and if the months come out negative we borrow a year.
Days lived are the exact difference between the two dates, counting leap years.
Worked example
Born on May 15, 2000, as of October 17, 2026: 26 years, 5 months and 2 days, with 9,651 days lived.

Frequently asked questions
How do you calculate exact age?
You subtract the years, months and days separately between the date of birth and today. If the days come out negative you borrow a month, and if the months come out negative you borrow a year.
How many days have I lived?
It is the number of calendar days between your birth and today, counting leap years. Someone born on May 15, 2000 has lived 9,651 days as of October 17, 2026: 365 per year plus one for each February 29.
When is the birthday of someone born on February 29?
In non-leap years, the calculator counts the birthday on March 1. If you need it for a legal or official purpose, check with the agency involved, because not all of them treat it the same way.
Can I use it to calculate how long I have worked somewhere?
Yes: enter your start date as the date of birth and today or your last day as the “as of” date. You get the years, months and days worked.
Can I calculate my age on a past or future date?
Yes: change the “as of” date to any day. It is useful to know how old you will be on a trip, at an event or on a deadline that asks for a minimum age.
Why do I get one year less than I expected?
Because your birthday has not come yet this year. Subtracting only the years (2026 − 2000 = 26) gives one year too many until the birthday; it is the most common mistake when working out an age.
