How many days, weeks and business days are between two dates
Count the days between dates in calendar days and weeks, see how many are business days once weekends and federal holidays are out, or find the date a number of days from now.
The key idea
Sixty days are not sixty working days: holidays and weekends eat into it
From November 1 to December 31, 2026 there are 60 days. Only 40 are business days: 17 weekend days go, and so do Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. A deadline in business days ends weeks later than one in calendar days.
How it is calculated
Calendar days are the difference between the two dates. By default the end date is not counted (from the 1st to the 3rd is 2 days); tick the box to include it, as you would for a vacation from the 1st to the 15th.
Business days are Monday to Friday minus the 11 federal holidays of 5 U.S.C. § 6103, on the day they are observed: a holiday on Saturday is observed on the Friday before, and one on Sunday on the Monday after. They are computed for any year.
Courts, agencies and contracts can have their own rules for counting deadlines, and states add their own holidays. For a legal deadline, check the rule that applies to it.
Worked example
From November 1 to December 31, 2026 there are 60 days: 8 weeks and 4 days. Of them, 17 are weekend days and 3 are federal holidays (Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas), so 40 are business days.
Adding 10 business days to Monday, November 23, 2026 lands on Tuesday, December 8, because Thanksgiving is skipped.

Frequently asked questions
How do I count the days between two dates?
Subtract the start date from the end date. From the 1st to the 3rd of a month is 2 days; include the end date if you count both ends, as in a stay from the 1st to the 3rd.
How many days are there from November 1 to December 31?
60 days, not counting December 31 itself, or 61 if you include it. In 2026, 40 of those 60 are business days.
Does it take out holidays?
Yes, the 11 federal holidays on their observed dates. State holidays, and days your employer gives off, such as the day after Thanksgiving, are not taken out.
What are business days?
Monday to Friday, except holidays. Banks follow the Federal Reserve calendar, which can differ slightly; for a bank or court deadline, check its own calendar.
Does it handle leap years?
Yes: it uses the real calendar, so February 29 counts in leap years such as 2028.
How do I add business days to a date?
Type the number of days in «Or add days to the start date» and choose «Business days». Weekends and federal holidays are skipped; a negative number counts backwards.
